So I twist and turn,
But here am I in my little bubble
character name: Demetri Grady Prince
significance: The name "Demetri" is a variant of "Demetrius" and it's meaning is "follow of Demeter" who is the Greek god of corn and harvest. Demetri's (adoptive) mother was a fan of Greek Mythology, - ironically - and liked how it sounded. Grady means "renowned", and he adoptive father named him after his father. Prince is simply their last name, no real reason for it.
age: 18
gender: Male
hair & face: Demetri is a handsome boy - it's that simple. He's not just cute or adorable - he's ridiculously attractive, and knows it too. You don't look this good without at least trying, and Demetri takes good care of himself. I'm not saying he uses a ton of skin products or whatever - hardly. He just likes to keep himself put-together and well-groomed. It helps that he has pretty good genes (or so he assumes, seeing as he doesn't know his real parents, but they must have been pretty good looking folk if they produced someone like him, right?). The most striking feature of all are his eyes, set under thick, dark eyebrows. Ocean blue and, yes, they're the type that girls like to "stare deeply into and get lost in" if they were particularly sappy or romantic. His eyelashes are thick, and almost feminine - if there was one thing that could be described as feminine about him, that would be it. He has a bit of a Roman nose, a little bigger than usual, but it fits with his face well enough, thankfully. His lips are naturally pink, with the bottom a lot thicker than the top, and when they part in his infamous one-hundred watt smile - reserved for the ladies or his friends - it's to reveal snow white teeth. Like I said, he takes good care of his appearance. His skin is naturally pale, a sharp contrast to his dark, almost black hair - which he keeps quite short most of the time, disliking the idea of growing it out since it'd "look too weird and feminine" on him. He has a strong jaw which juts out slightly when he clenches it and is sometimes covered with stubble - he likes the 5 o'clock shadow on him. Makes his face more masculine, in his opinion. And Demetri is all about masculinity.
build: Demetri is tall. As in, over-six-feet-tall tall. More specifically, he's almost six-foot-three. The Gods gifted him with height, evidently, making him tower over most people. And the way he carries himself simply emphasises his height - with shoulders thrown back and head held high, almost like he owns the world. He's very into most kinds of sports, including soccer, basketball and swimming, all of which help build up his muscles. However, his body is not that of a body-builder. Instead of being stocky and broad, he's more streamline, with broad shoulders but a narrower waist - which is just as well, he doesn't like to be comparable to a door. He has strong arms and legs, and the hints of a six pack which he's sure will soon become a lot more than just a hint with enough exercise, should he decide to be more active in going to the gym. Oh sure he loves sports, no problem, but for some reason dislikes the idea of going to the gym on a regular basis. He prefers to lifts weights at home, really. Just a quirk of his. Demetri has a soft spot for food, to be honest, and his mother is quite a good cook - as is his step mother's cook - but he works hard to make up for all the food he eats by burning it off with his activities. He has long arms and legs, which helps in most sports - evidently not in the winter ones, though, since for some reason he seems to completely suck at them, but unfortunately you can't be good at everything, no matter how much you want to be, right?
other notable physical characteristics: He has a tattoo on his chest that says "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me". When asked what it means, he often avoids the subject and plays it off as an I-got-it-when-I-was-drunk excuse.
face claim: Adam Gregory
god/goddess: Demitri's biological mother is the Norse goddess, Skadi, goddess of winter sports, winter and mountains. She is the daughter of the deceased Thiazi, a giant, who was murdered. She travels to Asgard, the home of the gods. The gods wished to offer her compensation for her loss and thus offer that she marry any of the Gods - although she was only allowed to pick by looking at their feet. And thus she ended up being married off to Njord, who is a Vanir god of sea, seafaring, wind, fishing, wealth and crop fertility. It is said that she splits up with him and later marries Odin, who is considered the chief god of the Norse, and she produces many children with him. She is responsible for placing the serpent that drips venom onto the bound God Loki as he all but admits that he is responsible for her father's death and accuses her of sleeping with him (Loki). Loki is bound by the gods and Skadi places a venomous snake above his head. Loki's wife holds a basin beneath the serpent to collect the venom and during the time during which she empties the basin, the venom that falls onto Loki's face causes him a great deal of pain, as punishment for murdering her father.

personality:COMPETITIVE JOCK
Soccer? Football? Basketball? Hockey? He loves them all, and plays them all. Demetri loves sports of any kind. If it includes moving his feet or any of his body parts, then he loves it. He's one of those guys who has a whole lot of energy most of the time and needs somewhere to put it - and that place? Sports, obviously. During his high school years he was on both the soccer and basketball team, and practiced swimming outside of school. Not only that, but he excelled in sports. Captain, won tournaments, got medals, the whole enchilada. And even though his father was the one who first got started him on sports and who spent all those years riding his ass about being the best, about completing his dream - even though they both knew that it had all originally been Jacob's dream -, Demetri loved it. He loved the pumped up feeling her got when he was out there, on the basketball court, or on the soccer field, or in the swimming pool. He loved the competition - the sports induced the competitive streak within him until he started to love the thrill of winning too much, and hate the emptiness of losing. He didn't need his father's lectures beating him up about it whenever he lost - he did that well enough by himself. Jacob's words just annoyed him, made him despise his father a little more with ever word he said. Because Demetri was so focused on sports, he let his grades slip - he just didn't care about classes enough, putting barely enough energy to pass so that he could stay on the teams. It made people back in high school classify him as a jock, with everything that came along with it. He didn't particularly mind, though, although he does mind when people think he's got a soccer ball where his brain ought to be. He's not stupid. He's just not an encyclopedia of information, that's all.JERK
Demetri isn't very good with words. He doesn't mince them, he doesn't sugar-coat where it isn't needed. If he has a problem with you, you'll know it because he'll be the biggest jerk you'll know. He can be quite cruel with his words and mannerisms, and has a tendency to be tactless even when he doesn't mean it - laughing during completely inappropriate moments, or even just the comments that sometimes flies from his lips before he could stop himself. He also has a very hard time apologizing. Oh, he might know that he hurt you - if it's obvious, he'll notice, otherwise he doesn't bother to find out if what he said hurt your feelings because, unless he actually likes you, he just doesn't care. If you get him to apologise, then you're either his sister or a very special person indeed. His sarcasm often makes him out to be a jerk, too, especially when he takes jokes and things too far. Sometimes, he just doesn't know when to stop. He can't help himself, it just...happens. Which results in a lot of red hand prints and broken noses, but hey. He's a tough guy, he'll take it.PROTECTIVE
Yeah, he's an insensitive jerk - but he's also protective as hell over people who matter. Of course, that category is pretty slim, but if you're a real friend then Demetri will literally do anything to protect you. Take his little sister, Summer, for example. Demetri would die before he let anything happen to her. When she's a teenager he'll probably be one of those intimidating, over-bearing brothers who flexes his muscles and glares at her date and dish out threats like "you break her heart and I'll break your legs". And yes, he can get aggressive when he wants to be. Like I said, the boy has a lot of pent-up energy all the time. When he can't let it loose on the sports field, he needs other sources of release. Not saying he goes around picking fights out of nowhere just because someone he knows got hurt - quite the opposite. He's actually a very laid back guy, and you have to be extremely important to him for him to actually rise to the occasion like that. But if you do manage to crack through his shell and actually find a place in his heart, then he'll probably be the most loyal friend you'll ever have. Oh sure he might hurt you without meaning to with an insensitive comment here and there, but you'll always know that with him? You're completely safe, and you've got someone to watch your back.JUDGMENTAL
Demetri is the type of person whom, once he forms a first impression of you, it's hard to sway him. He rarely gives people second chances - never third. Usually, he forms that first impression from the moment he sees you. He's that person who'll label you immediately in their head - jock, nerd, princess, ice queen. His mind automatically categorizes people under these labels, and that's how he reacts and deals with people and decides between who's worth his time and who he doesn't want anything to do with. His opinion of you can alter slightly if he decides he wants to get to know you, of course. His friends aren't under certain categories - he's gotten to know them and thus they've grown into actual people that can't really be catagorised. He's not stupid - he knows every person is unique and all that stuff. Being judgment and labeling them just weedles out the people he's actually interested in from the people he doesn't. However, that one label is always there, even when he does accept that you're a whole person with more to you than just being a jock, or just being a nerd, or whatever. That very first impression is probably how he'll see you from the first time he meets you. And unless you're a complete mystery from day one, he labels everyone in his head. You're probably thinking 'wow this guy has a lot of exceptions to his own personality', and it's true. Demetri just isn't as black and white as one might think.LADIES MAN
He likes girls. Well, that's a given, he's a guy and he's a jock - but yes. Demetri likes girls. Tall girls, short girls, skinny girls, curvy girls - if you have a pretty face and you attract him, he'll most likely hit on you. He's a huge flirt, but he likes to argue that he can't help himself. He claims it's in his nature to flirt with girls - and that "when a girl looks pretty, she's asking for it". It's not like he's a huge sleaze - of course not. He's just ridiculously charming. Girls rarely see the "jerk" side of him, because he becomes transformed into this smooth, smiling, flirty young man, with his casual compliments, his 100-watt smile and his gentle, subtle gestures. He's a natural, really, and so it's no surprise that he's almost never single. He, quite frankly, dislikes being single. He doesn't like being alone. At the same time, he's not much of a relationship kind-of guy. If you can hold his attention for longer than two weeks, then you're really a keeper. It's only ever happened once, when he was fifteen years old - first heartbreak, of course. Back when he was young and innocent. Stacy Mitchell. She was beautiful, of course. Blonde, blue eyes, very nicely shaped for a fifteen year old. Demetri fell head-over-heels for her. She was his first - first 'time', first love, whatever you want to call it. She was just his first. And they were great together - the "it" couple, if you want to call it. Or so he thought, anyway. He'd been convinced that she loved him as much as he loved her -- back then, he still had fantasies that love existed, even thought his own parents' failed marriage should have proved otherwise. But then, after three months of dating, he caught her behind the stands with her legs spread and one of his best friends between them. Cliche? Of course. Demetri was heart broken, of course, but mostly he was angry and humiliated. How could she have done that to him? He vowed never to let a girl close enough to let it happen to him again. And so he goes through girls faster than he changes socks. It's a healthy lifestyle, in his opinion. He's too young to be tied down to one girl anyway. He has his whole life ahead of him, right?LIFE OF THE PARTY
Needless to say, Demetri knows how to have fun. He's been to his fair share of parties over the year, he's done - and still does - the whole get-completely-plastered-even-thought-you're-underage-and-end-up-in-bed-with-a-random-girl deal. His parents disapprove, of course, especially his mother, who goes on and on about how drinking and fornicating is blasphemous and what-not. He learned to block them out eventually. He likes his life the way it is, and doesn't like to be told what to do. He has a very laid back personality and lets things roll off his shoulder easily, which makes him a fun guy to be around, especially since he rarely takes things seriously. People can always count on him to organize a raving party, or liven it up, or crack a joke when things are too awkward. He's that guy you can just let loose with. Sure, that makes him irresponsible, and he's definitely not that guy that you'd normally look to to be your supportive rock, or to cry into his shoulder and you wouldn't expect him to hold you and rock you - more often than not, he wouldn't. He often tries to escape from serious things, and hates dealing with drama. He'll often try to laugh things off or punch you in the shoulder and crack a joke or something to avoid a serious discussion. It grinds on people's nerves and eventually they learn to shut up about their problems since they can't expect him to take it seriously. He just honestly doesn't know what the right thing to say is and that annoys him, so he hides behind humor or sarcasm. It's his defense mechanism, if you want to put it that way.
And that's Demetri Prince in a nutshell.
character’s parents: Jacob Prince - 43 years old - perfectionist, driven, football coach, lives through his son, Demetri
Chloe Marsters - 41 years old - religious, cares a lot about appearances, warm and loving, supportive
siblings: David Prince - 15 - like Demetri, David is very into sports, although he doesn't have Demetri's talent and competitive streak. He's constantly trying to outshine his brother, and often feels like he's in his brother's shadow. Him and Demetri don't have the best relationship due to this, and are often arguing about the silliest things - most arguments started by David himself. Outside of that, David is a pretty good kid though - smart, and a bit of a sweetheart. Well, compared to Demetri, anyway.
Summer Prince - 10 - She's the baby of the family, and is coddled by everyone - Demetri, David, her parents and even her step parents. Demetri is especially protective of her. She's pretty much convinced that she's a princess and makes everyone call her "Princess Summer" and is usually seen with a tiara atop her pretty blonde curls.
other family members of note: Samantha Prince - 35 - pushy, overbearing, spoiled, pretentious - stepmother
Derrick Marsters - 45 - step father - business man, laid-back, great cook, "mr. nice guy".
history: Skadi wasn't supposed to get pregnant.
Hell, she hadn't meant to sleep with a human. But Odin and her had had a row and she'd gotten miffed and the human had been charming and beautiful and, well, one thing had led to another and she'd slept with him. And gotten pregnant. This wasn't too big of a deal, of course. She could easily pass the child off as her and Odin's - except she wasn't sure how powerful he would be. But she passed him off as Odin's throughout her pregnancy (she couldn't bear the idea of getting rid of the child), and then when he was born, she realised she couldn't keep him. He was a beautiful baby, of course, but he didn't belong there. He didn't belong with her, and he looked nothing like Odin. She did not want her husband to become suspicious. And thus she did the one thing she could do - gave him away. She had to find decent parents, of course. A loving family and all that. No son of hers would grow up in a poor family. She couldn't allow it. And so she needed to find him a place where he could be raised until it was time for him to come home. And so she searched for that suitable couple and found them quite easily - Jacob and Chloe Prince. They were in their early twenties and had been married for a few years. Evidently, they had been trying for a child for the past two years and failing. Giving them a son could only be a blessing, right? Especially one as special as hers. And so she dropped him off at the doorstep with a short note - "Consider it a blessing from the Gods".
Of course, Jacob and Chloe took it as such. They'd only been hoping for a child for the past two years. They immediately took him in, and named him Demetri Grady Prince. They treated him as they would their own, and then some. Chloe coddled him and spoiled him rotten. Jacob planned out his whole future - he would be a jock, of course, star football player, captain of the team, he'd win every single game, he'd get a free ride to college, he'd be asked to sign up with some major team. In other words? He'd be able to accomplish everything Jacob never did. No son of his would end up being a measly football coach. He wouldn't allow it. He had high expectations for the kid and had his whole life organised for him before Demetri had even turned two. Demetri would be his dream son - he had to be. And even when, a few years later, they were blessed with a son - something completely unexpected, but a blessing nonetheless - Jacob never had the same dreams for his own, real son. Perhaps it was the fact that Demetri was the eldest, but Jacob never paid nearly as much attention on David as he did Demetri. He knew it was wrong. Deep down, he knew he shouldn't be so negligent, that he needed to remember sometimes that Demetri wasn't his only son. It was different when Summer came - she was a girl, and quickly become his "little baby". And David became the middle child, simply there to Jacob at times, and it was wrong, of course it was wrong. But it was hard to think of that when Demetri became the star of his little league soccer team while David could barely shoot a goal. It quickly became obvious that Jacob had been right in making all those plans for Demetri and not David. David just didn't have the talent. Demetri did. Demetri was the one who would carry outtheirhis dreams of stardom. And that was wrong too, probably. Living through your own son. It can't possibly be healthy.
And it wasn't. Not to Demetri, not to David, not to anyone really. Demetri knew, even when he was a little boy, that his whole life would be centered around his father's dream. It was why he didn't try out for the football team but preferred other sports instead. He claimed that he wasn't as good at it, but in reality he just did not want to be coached by his father, he didn't need that extra stress. As if the stress of having him on the sidelines egging him on, of having him repeatedly tell him that he couldn't mess up, that he had to be the best before every game wasn't enough. And then there was David who picked arguments over nothing, who sulked every time Demetri won something, which hurt worse than Demetri would want to admit. He wanted his whole family to be celebrating and, as a kid, he couldn't understand why David seemed to hate him so much. Because that was what it appeared to be - David hated him. Or, at least, he didn't seem to like him very much. Why else would he send him those glares, why else would he start the arguments? Oh sure, they were brothers, and brothers argued all the time, but it was more than that somehow. He knew it, even as a young child, he knew it was more than that, and he couldn't understand. The only family members that didn't cause him stress were his mother and his sister - although he didn't like to admit them, he loved them more than he could ever love his father. He remembered the first time he had considered the fact that he hated his father. He had been twelve years old, and they had lost a game. Instead of comforting him or encouraging him, all his father did was pick on all the mistakes he made, lecture him about footwork, even yell at him that he would never amount to anything because he wasn't practicing enough, because he wasn't focused enough on the field. Demetri got no sleep that night, simply lying in his bed staring at the ceiling and thinking about how much he hated his father, how much he wished his father would be supportive like his mother. And what's worse? David had been gloating. Gloating! At his loss. That was just a dagger to the heart, right there.
He had thought matters couldn't possible be worse, but they could. His mother didn't approve of his father's doings. They fought, all the time. Demetri, David and Summer would often stay in their room, listening to them argue about the littlest of things. But the biggest arguments were always about him - about Demetri, and how Jacob was treating him, how he was living through him, and how unhealthy that was. Summer was only four years old, but even though she didn't understand, it still upset her, and David, of course, blamed him and that only, in turn, upset Demetri even more. He couldn't stand it. He just wanted it to go away. He just wanted them to stop. And they did. By getting a divorce. Demetri was horrified. His whole family was falling apart, it seemed. Chloe simply decided that enough was enough and filed for a divorce. In a few weeks, Chloe was single again and they had agreed on a system - Chloe got them most of the year, but they visited Jacob during the holidays. The separation from his father was actually good for Demetri. Now he had less pressure on him to be good - but even without his father there, he found himself pressuring himself to be the best. The dream had been so ingrained in him, his father had drilled it in so firmly that it had become his dream too. He pushed himself during highschool, which was when things got serious, of course. His father told him he was proud of him, and he continued to come to his games, and the lectures continued to come, but Demetri learned how to shut them out. He couldn't let his father get in his head. He couldn't. He'd let his father get to him long enough. It was how he dealt with David, too. He learned to ignore the snarky comments, to just brush off whatever he said with a joke or a roll of his eyes or not even acknowledging it. Because letting things get to you was simply too much trouble.
Jacob and Chloe both remarried only a few years after their divorce. The three kids loved their new step father and hated their step mother - no surprise there, really. It just made Demetri despise going to his father's house even more. Samantha was annoying and loud and liked to stick her nose where it didn't belong. Derrick, on the other hand, was everything Demetri had ever wanted his father to be - caring, supportive, the whole enchilada. He treated them all the same, and for once David had a father figure who paid attention to him as much as Demetri did. At first it was strange - Demetri was used to being in the spotlight, and when he wasn't he was suddenly thrown off. But then he brushed it off, just like he brushed everything else off. He had more important things in his life, like impressing the scouts. While they were well-off, he still wanted that free ride to college. Maybe it was to prove something to his father, but Demetri put all his energy into his practices, pushing himself to the limits, and then rewarding himself with parties and girls. He knew better than to dedicate himself wholly to sports - not only was he quite incapable of that, what with the party scene practically at the tip of his fingers and all, but he liked to party it up as much as any other guy. It was his way of rewarding himself - parties during the weekends, practices during the week. In his opinion, it was a balanced life. A very busy and exhausting one that would probably end up biting him in the butt at some point, but he was handling it pretty well thus far. His mother didn't approve, of course she didn't, but he was too far gone in the lifestyle to back out now. He liked it too much. And it wasn't like his partying habits cost him anything. He got his scholarship, and now he's off to college with the dream of someday playing in a professional team.
Someday.
